Juki TL-2010Q vs Janome 1600P-QC: harp space, speed & who should buy which

Two high-speed straight-stitch quilters from the two brands that dominate this class. The Janome is the only one here with an official manufacturer-published harp figure — and it claims the higher top speed.

Verdict

Harp: Janome officially publishes 8.8″ × 5.5″ (marketed as 'nearly 9″ × 6″'); Juki retailers publish 8.5″ × 5.9″ for the TL-2010Q. The Janome is slightly wider on paper, the Juki slightly taller — in practice they are the same class of space.

Speed: the 1600P-QC's 1,600 SPM beats the Juki's 1,500 on paper; off paper, nobody quilts at either ceiling for long. The bigger practical difference is the accessory math — the Janome does not include an extension table (it is an optional extra), while the Juki ships with its auxiliary table and an even-feed foot.

The 1600P-QC's ace is frame use: it is a popular, proven head for hoop-style quilting frames. If a frame is in your future, the Janome (or its successor, the HD9) is the safer base. For tabletop free-motion, the Juki's speed limiter and included kit give it the edge.

Pick the Juki TL-2010Q if…

  • You quilt on the machine itself and want the speed limiter + included table
  • You want the larger published harp height
  • Resale matters — TL machines hold value well
